Webmail Access
To access webmail, simply point your web browser to
http://webmail.terraworld.net/. You
can use webmail as a full featured email client. It is capable of storing your
address book, sending and receiving email to anybody (from any computer!), as
well as allow you to set your filtering options for dealing with messages marked
as SPAM by our filtering system.
SPAM Filtering
Here at Terra World, we take your email very seriously. We
recognize that email is critically important to both home and business users.
However, like the rest of the internet, we must deal with the ever growing
problem of SPAM. To counteract SPAM we have a very strict policy against
releasing email addresses - we never share this customer
information with anybody. Our mail servers also implement many
anti-spam tactics designed to filter out as much bad mail as possible, while
still providing useful mail services.
Our anti-spam methods are varied and complex, but consist
primarily of utilizing real-time black lists (Spamhaus
SBL, XBL,
Spamcop, and our own internal list). These
lists are designed to respond within a few minutes of a new source of spam
(generally a zombie PC that doesn't know it's sending spam) - and block it. If
you ever receive an error referencing Spamhaus or Spamcop it's because you, or
someone recently assigned the same IP address, was sending spam! If this happens
to you, scan your system with anti-virus and anti-spyware software immediately.
After rejecting these sources of SPAM our system uses the most advanced
anti-spam software in the world, Cloudmark, to identify possible spam with over
99% accuracy, with very few false positives. Cloudmark also provides Anti-Phishing
and Anti-Scam protection with similar accuracy. By using these methods, our
mail servers completely block on the order of one million spam messages
per day!
Because the anti-spam software we utilize is so accurate, many
people are comfortable trusting the system to be correct, and automatically
delete all messages marked as SPAM. By doing so, you can have almost *no* spam
in your inbox! To set your spam filtering options, log in to
webmail and click on "Options", then
"Filtering Options". Because no system is perfect, a few messages still
sneak by - but not the thousands you would receive otherwise if we did not take
these steps to prevent you from receiving junkmail.
How To Configure Your Accounts
To configure your account with Outlook Express, open your
"Tools" menu and click on "Accounts". Next, Click on "Add" and choose "Mail"
from the popup. This will open the account wizard. Step through the account
wizard, filling in the information as required. When the account wizard requests
settings or information, refer to the table above. If you would like to use the
IMAP server, additional configuration is required. More information on how to
configure your mail client with IMAP is available
here .
How to configure
SMTP Authentication
To configure SMTP Authentication with Outlook Express, or
versions of Outlook before Outlook XP, follow these steps:
- Click on the Tools menu, then click on Accounts
- Highlight your mail account (this may be easier from the Mail
tab), then click Properties.
- Click on the Servers tab
- Ensure that the Account Name field contains your full email
address. This is very important.
- Put a check mark in the box next to "My server requires
authentication".
SMTP Authentication is now enabled.
Important Notes
AUTOMATIC MAIL
DELETION:
The mail server will automatically delete mail from the
following folders after the specified number of days:
- Trash Folder - 7 days
- Sent Folder - 30 days
POP3 MAIL CLIENTS
If you check your mail using a POP3 mail client (such as Outlook
Express), it will download and delete the mail from your WebMail inbox. If you
want to be able to download the mail using POP3 and also leave it on the server
so you can see it with WebMail, you will need to adjust the settings in your
POP3 client to tell it not to delete mail after downloading.
For example, to configure this in Outlook Express you would go
to Tools -> Accounts -> Mail -> Properties -> Advanced and then tick the box 'Leave
a copy of message on server'.
